CNA-Online Asynchronous

CNA Online Asynchronous Learning Program: Flexible Online Learning With Instructor Guidance
Our CNA Online Asynchronous Learning Program is designed to provide structured online theory instruction for students preparing for a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Students complete assigned learning modules, narrated lessons, educational videos, reading materials, learning activities, and module examinations within the program's established schedule. Asynchronous learning allows students to complete approved online theory instruction on their own schedule while remaining accountable to course deadlines and maintaining regular communication with their assigned instructor.
Program Goal
This program prepares students with the knowledge, professional judgment, and foundational skills needed to provide safe, compassionate, person-centered care under appropriate supervision.
Online Learning Requirements
The program's Learning Management System (LMS) is designed to support structured learning, instructor oversight, student accountability, and documentation of instructional participation.
-
Approved theory instruction: The program must provide 66 Hours, 53 Minutes & 56 Seconds of approved theory instruction through online or distance learning.
-
Supervised clinical training: Students must complete 100 hours of supervised clinical training at an approved skilled nursing facility (SNF) or intermediate care facility (ICF), as applicable.
-
Structured learning modules: Students complete assigned narrated lessons, videos, reading materials, and learning activities.
-
Instructional time tracking: The LMS must include time-tracking and pause functionality to document student participation. Students must participate for at least 50 minutes to receive credit for each required instructional hour.
-
Module examinations: Each module includes an examination to assess student understanding. Students must meet the program's predetermined passing standard before advancing to the next module.
-
Sequential course progression: Students cannot skip required content or proceed directly to an examination without completing the required instructional material. Students may return to previously completed content for review.
-
Instructor interaction: Students must interact with an instructor daily for the purpose of monitoring participation, assessing understanding, and providing educational support.
-
Student performance records: The LMS must maintain records of instructional time, module grades, repeated modules, examination results, and overall course completion and pass/fail information for CDPH review.
Required theory instructional hours exclude self-study and examination time.
Curriculum and Learning Objectives
The curriculum follows the applicable California CNA training requirements and the program's approved curriculum. Instruction addresses essential areas of nurse assistant practice, including:
-
Introduction to the nurse assistant role, professional responsibilities, and ethical conduct.
-
Communication, interpersonal relationships, and resident rights.
-
Infection prevention, hand hygiene, and standard precautions.
-
Safety, emergency procedures, and accident prevention.
-
Basic nursing skills and personal care.
-
Activities of daily living, nutrition, hydration, and elimination.
-
Vital signs, observation, documentation, and reporting changes in a resident's condition.
-
Mental health, psychosocial needs, and person-centered care.
-
Care of residents with developmental and mental disorders, including intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, dementia, Parkinson's disease, and mental illness.
-
Care of residents with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.
-
Rehabilitation, restorative care, and maintaining resident independence.
-
End-of-life care and support for residents and their families.
The final curriculum must address all required CDPH curriculum modules and subtopics. The program must document how each topic is covered and the instructional time assigned to it.
Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring
Student learning is evaluated through module examinations and other approved learning activities. Each module examination measures the student's understanding of the material presented.
Students must achieve the program's established proficiency level before advancing. Students who do not meet the required standard must follow the program's remediation and reassessment procedures.
Instructors monitor student progress, review assessment results, provide feedback, and maintain documentation of student performance.
Instructor Support and Communication
Although asynchronous instruction does not require all students to attend a live class at the same time, instructor oversight remains an essential part of the learning experience.
Students are required to communicate with their assigned instructor daily according to the program's established procedures. Communication is used to evaluate understanding, address questions, review progress, and provide appropriate academic support.
The program maintains documentation of instructor-student interactions and student progress in accordance with applicable requirements.
Student Records and Learning Management System
The LMS must provide secure, individual student access and maintain accurate records for program monitoring and regulatory review.
Records include:
-
Individual student login and participation information.
-
Time spent in each instructional module.
-
Module examination grades and results.
-
Module repetitions and remediation, as applicable.
-
Overall course completion and pass/fail status.
-
Certification examination passage-rate information over the required two-year period.
The program must make required records available to CDPH upon request and protect student personal information.
Clinical Training
Online theory instruction does not replace hands-on clinical training. Students must complete the required supervised clinical instruction in an approved clinical setting under qualified supervision.
Clinical training provides opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge, develop practical nurse assistant skills, and demonstrate safe, respectful, and appropriate resident care.
Clinical scheduling, skills evaluation, and student documentation must follow the program's approved curriculum and applicable CDPH requirements.
Program Compliance and Quality Assurance
The program is responsible for maintaining compliance with applicable federal and California requirements, including relevant provisions of the California Health and Safety Code, Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations, and Title 42 of the Code of Federal Regulations.
The program must use its approved curriculum and LMS, maintain required documentation, and obtain any required CDPH approval before implementing changes to program content, instructional hours, staff, student evaluation procedures, or other regulated program elements.
Important Notice: Online asynchronous CNA theory instruction is part of a complete nurse assistant training program. Completion of online coursework alone does not establish eligibility for CNA certification. Students must satisfy all applicable training, clinical, examination, and certification requirements.
